If you want a taste of how it would feel to be one of the cogs in a totalitarian machine, check out the just-released Beholder [$4.99]. In Beholder, you are a State-installed landlord, and your purpose is to ensure none of your tenants is planning any kind of subversive activities or posing any threat to the State. And, of course, why would they? They should know they live in the equivalent of heaven on Earth and should be thankful for it. But I digress. Your duties include bugging apartments, going through belongings for anything that doesn't belong there, and, of course, reporting anyone who seems like a current or potential threat...

Google I/O 2017, the Google equivalent to say, Apple's WWDC, had its keynote on May 17th, 2017, and there was a few interesting things to come out of it. The big gaming-related reveal is Google announcing a standalone Daydream VR headset along with HTC and Lenovo. These will use a technology called WorldSense, which is described as inside-out tracking. While the headsets are still in the prototype phase, they're aimed for the "mid-hundreds range" in terms of pricing for the standalone headset. Check out what the WorldSense technology, which uses some of the advances of the Tango augmented reality technlogy, can do:..

Earlier this month we told you that the fine fellas at Beavertap Games were prepping a huge update for their fantastic Mikey Jumps [Free], and as of just a bit ago that update has gone live in the App Store. The update adds a whopping 200 new levels to the game, and adds in a major new mechanic with warp portals. These will allow you to enter one portal and instantly exit the other, creating some mind-melting new level designs which you can see in this new version 2.0 update trailer below...

'Foolball' Is a Medieval Ball Game With Ragdolls and a Fun Art Style

Ragdoll games are always better than the sum of their parts, especially with younger players who enjoy seeing ridiculousness on screen. The upcoming Foolball combines ragdolls with a silly ball game where you and your opponent try to get the poor jester through the flaming hoops on each side of the (literal) court. Your frantic efforts are nothing but entertainment for the visibly bored King, who's more interested in his food than your struggle to the (jester's) death...

'Crushy Bricks' from Umbrella and Natty Games Soft Launching June 8th, Releasing Worldwide July 6th

During GDC this past March, we sat down with Umbrella Games to see a few of their upcoming titles. One of those was a matching game called Crushy Bricks which they're developing in partnership with Natty Games. While I'm not typically eager to see a new matching game, Crushy Bricks took me by surprise with the really clever way it strips the genre down to the bare minimum. Rather than making matches on a board, you'll only have to contend with a single string of blocks and your goal is to swipe away blocks to allow others to drop and connect at least 3 of the same color to clear them. Sort of a mashup of regular matching game and Zuma. Check out the brand new trailer...

This week's Hearthstone [Free] Tavern Brawl will take you all the way back to early 2016 when An Evil Exchange first made its appearance on our devices. This Brawl is an entertaining one because of how asymmetric it is. An Evil Exchange has one player play as Kel'Thuzad and the other as Rafaam, and they are competing to see which one is the toughest boss around. Both bosses give you a pre-constructed deck, and Kel'Thuzad has 30 Health and 30 Armor while Rafaam has 60 Health, so expect matches to take a bit longer than usual. As you would expect, Kel'Thuzad's Hero Power brings a random minion back from the dead...

Star Realms [Free] is a great deck building game that has a pretty loyal following. When the game came to mobile, its UI design wasn't the best—as we noted in our review—and overall it didn't look as good as the game deserved. Even though the game has been out since 2014, the developers decided to release an update today that overhauls the game's look as well as adds real-time gameplay and the Colony Wars expansion. The new interface is based on player feedback and should look much better, and there's even new music. In addition to the UI changes, there have been other changes like increased security, with every move logged with the server now...

'Pokémon: Magikarp Jump' Soft Launches in the Italian App Store

Back in February some very vague details surrounding a new Pokemon mobile game were announced, and it appeared that the new game would be called Splash! Magikarp and would be… celebrating how utterly useless this particular Pokemon is? Well, as strange as that sounded then, that actually seems to be the case as that game, officially titled Pokemon: Magikarp Jump, has soft-launched in the Italian App Store. Yes, the Italian App Store. I think developers are getting hip to all of us soft-launch enthusiasts and keep putting games up in App Store regions where I don't have an account yet. It's easy enough to make one, but… eh. Anyway, here's some of the App Store screens of Magikarp Jump...

Best New iPhone Games on Our Forums: 'Raster Prime', 'Guns of Boom', 'Terminator Genisys: Future War, No Stick Shooter', and More

Believe it or not, it's Wednesday again, and it's also National Mushroom Hunting Day. I'm not sure if it's exclusively a Midwestern thing, but this time of year (and actually, a few weeks prior) is just gangbusters for hunting morel mushrooms. Morels are pretty interesting fungi, as like truffles, people really haven't figured out how to produce them on a mass scale like all the other food we have factory farmed. Instead, mushroom hunters get up super early, head out to their own highly prized and secretive spots where they pop up, and go wild harvesting them. It's super lucrative, as ~4 ounces (roughly enough fresh morels to fill a normal sized sandwich bag) can easily sell for $10-20 locally, or for far more online when dried. A good hunt can yield multiple coolers full of 'shrooms, which is why everyone keeps their hunting grounds top secret. Morels have an incredibly unique taste, and if you're ever looking to treat yo'self I recommend picking some up and making some kind of mushroom risotto. They're reasonably easy to find dried at Whole Foods and other "high-end" grocery stores. Oh wait, this is an iPhone games site. Right. Well, hopefully you learned something new. Anyway, a ton of new iOS games have come out in the last week...

Good news for Android players and fans of the Phoenix Wright series of games. Capcom has announced that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies [$0.99] is set to hit Android later in May. The colon-then-hyphen title means you know it's getting deep into this series. The fifth game in the Ace Attorney franchise, you'll help out Phoenix Wright as he returns to action after Apollo Justice [$0.99]. The game features 3D graphics in the style of the original 2D art that came to define the Ace Attorney series...

'Art of Conquest' MMO/RTS Hybrid Launches Worldwide on June 6th

We got to check out Art of Conquest back at GDC, and it looked like an interesting multi-genre hybrid of MMORPGs and real-time strategy. After a soft launch and beta test, Lilith Games is ready to announce that Art of Conquest will release worldwide on June 6th. The game will have you engaging in several different forms of action: there's base-building, but also going and conquering other lands and attacking other players' bases. You'll fight armies, raising troops and unleashing abilities in battle against opponents. And you can do this while exploring a world as your commander character...

One of the surprise platforming hits of last year had to be the particularly memorable and especially gross Eggggg [Free], from developers Hyper Games. Rather than use athletic jumping prowess or other such abilities, the protagonist to Eggggg used their vomit to propel them around the beautifully designed levels. It's a bit of a peculiar game mechanic, but after the initial difficulty curve it just clicks, and reveals itself to be one of the most charming and unique games in its genre on the App Store. While its initial $2.99 cost of entry was great value for the 21 levels within the game, the developers have made Eggggg the unbeatable price of free for the next week only...

'AdVenture Communist' Coming to Mobile, the Sequel to Kongregate and Hyper Hippo's 'AdVenture Capitalist'

Kongregate published Hyper Hippo's hit clicker AdVenture Capitalist [Free], and the people rejoiced. But what about a game for the worker? The history of all hitherto existing society is clickers. And with that, Kongregate and Hyper Hippo announce that Adventure Communist is coming to mobile. Yes, comrade, there will be bread and roses...and also clicking to earn lots of idle currency. Oh, and if you thought the only clicker you were going to play this year with potatoes was Spaceplan [$2.99], well, comrade, you were wrong just as the Mensheviks were. But enough Stalin, here's some art of the upcoming clicker:..

'Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow' Gets Animated Teaser and New Screenshots

Jam City is releasing a new Futurama game, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow on mobile soon, and they've just released a new trailer featuring new animation and voice acting from the original cast. It features a pretty amusing Bender/Android joke. What's interesting is that they're saying there's new and "never-before-seen" animation, so some of the material for the game might be based around unused animation from the series' second run on TV? Hmm...

Magic the Gathering: Puzzle Quest [Free] continues to keep up with all the Magic The Gathering expansions, and today's update has brought the Amonkhet expansion to the very entertaining mobile game. Amonkhet is the 74th Magic expansion and the first in the Amonkhet block. As you might probably have guessed from the name, this expansion was inspired by Ancient Egypt. The MTG: Puzzle Quest version of the expansion comes with 155 new cards, including 10 Masterpiece cards...

A few months back, we wrote about the first trailer for the upcoming The Emoji Movie, the movie that will make a ton of money even if you think it shouldn't even exist. If you remember, the movie is about Gene, an emoji unable to consistently pull off the same face, which is anathema in the emoji world. The original reveal teased that Gene and his friends would have to venture across the apps of a teenager's phone, and now we know the reason why. As the new trailer reveals, Gene's inability to portray the intended emoji makes the teenager think that his phone is malfunctioning and decides to wipe it out, which means everything and everyone on the phone will be wiped out as well...

In early February we learned that Djinnworks would be taking on the sport of skateboarding with their popular Stickman aesthetic in a game called Stickman Skate Park. Then in late March, we got word that Stickman Skate Park had been renamed Stickman Skate Battle to put emphasis on its online multiplayer battling. Now, following a short beta test period, Stickman Skate Battle [Free] has arrived as of early yesterday. It offers a bunch of different parks to skate in, plus tons of unlockable characters and skate equipment. Check out the launch trailer to see Stickman Skate Battle in action...

Heroes Above: Sky Clash [Free], the casual, squad-based strategy game that mostly takes place across battling airships, has, well, flown out of beta and launched worldwide today. Heroes Above has you training and evolving various heroes as you strive to create the best squad you can. As is usually the case in games like this one, you get to pick from a variety of troop types as you try to customize the game to fit your play style...

Otto-Ville Ojala is someone whose name you should know, because Soccer Physics [Free] has been a tremendously popular game for years now. It's one of the great examples of the wacky physics sports genre that has seen countless imitators. But if you haven't played it, or if you have, then you might want to get on that right away. Ojala is quitting as an iOS game developer once his Apple developer membership expires on May 28th, which means all his games are going away. However, you can pick them up for free right now:..

The Soft-Launched 'Farm On!' Has You Managing Your Farm in Portrait Mode

It looks like mobile gamers really love farming, at least judging from all the farming games that have graced the platform. Farm On! is getting ready to join the club and hopes that it'll be able to stand out from the rest partly because of its focus on single-handed, portrait mode gameplay. As you can see from the trailer, the game will be mostly focused on the sowing-harvesting loop with plenty of crops, animals, and products to mess around with...
