Late last month I shared the details of the upcoming version 2.3 update for Skullgirls [Free] on mobile, and I also did not hold back my feelings on why I think this is far and away the best mobile fighting game out there. I won't go down that road quite as verbosely as last time, but definitely give it a read if you're curious what makes Skullgirls on mobile so darn special. What I will do though is shout from the rooftops that the version 2.3 update for Skullgirls has gone live in the App Store, and boy is it a doozy. So obviously the big ticket item in this new update is something we focused on a lot in that previous post, and that is the addition of Squigly to the roster of fighters in the game. Squigly is an incredibly unique character in that she has the ability to build up Dragon Charges which, when used, can augment the types of moves she performs, effectively giving her more moves and possibilities than any other character...

Have I ever mentioned that Redshift's The Quest [$7.99] is an absurd value for money and one of the most expansive RPG adventure games available on mobile? Because just in case I haven't, it is, and it is growing even larger today thanks to a new expansion being released. The Quest - Celtic Queen [$2.99] is an expansion adventure developed by longtime Redshift collaborator Zarista Games, and it was originally released as an expansion for what is now known as The Quest Classic way back in 2012. Today's release is the high resolution remastered version of that expansion, which is compatible with the high resolution remastered The Quest. Here's a brief synopsis of Celtic Queen...

Axe.IO [Free] is one of those frantic multiplayer games with an captivating edge to it that will have you keep coming back for another round. The game has a very charming and colorful art style with simple, yet, tricky gameplay. You will be running around various maps ranging from courtyards to castles and swinging an axe at other players or a dragon (yes you heard that right there is a co-op mode where you take on dragons). When you miss, you have to frantically grab your ax that you dropped or find a new one to pick up...

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It's time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Wow, some really great games got some super-cool updates in the last week. It was hard to pick out the best of the bunch, but I'm nothing if not good at arbitrary selection. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let's dig in!..

It was exactly a month ago that I got pretty excited over the trailer to a new game from developer Dark-1 called Odium to the Core [$2.99], and while it arrived a bit too late to be included in our weekly roundup the game is now available for purchase in the App Store. Odium to the Core is a cave flyer where you'll guide your little creature through perilous levels collecting orbs, finding hidden secrets, and hopefully making it to the goal at the end. It uses the tried and true "tap to float up and release to drop down" control mechanic used in most cave flyers, but it also ties the gameplay into the beats of the kicking soundtrack that plays in the background. It doesn't necessarily feel like a rhythm game, but the way the music syncs up to the action is really satisfying...

If you are an avid gamer on mobile and follow the scene, you may know that retro-style pixel art has been the rave the last couple of years. Many great games offer graphics from a bygone era, but redone with a magic digital touch to bring these aesthetics to modern play controls and structures in gaming. Crescent Moon Games' Reed [$1.99] is a game that fits this mold. It is a platformer that will keep you hooked for its art style alone, but one that will also scratch that hardcore itch. Reed is a platformer that relies on double jumps and quick wits to navigate the game's 50 levels. The levels are generally very short and it shouldn't take you more than a couple hours to complete the game if you are a skilled platform player. However, let's get to the game's weird, but captivating, storyline first...

So while PC and console players and more recently mobile players were obsessed with PUBG Mobile [Free] and Fortnite [Free], a certain web game was growing at an alarming rate. ZombsRoyale.io [Free] originally available on PC and the web grew into a game with more than 10 million players and it is now on iOS with an Android releasing coming very soon. ZombsRoyale.io is a very interesting blend of both Fortnite and PUBG but 2D with a top down view. In fact it feels like the old PS1 GTA games to me quite a bit with a Prison Architect like art style when it comes to visuals and perspective. Watch the trailer below:..

While its been a thing of its own for some time now, the MOBA genre really got its start as the multiplayer component of an action RPG or MMORPG. Dungeon Hunter Champions [Free] just goes ahead and acknowledges that directly by setting up solo play in classic action RPG fashion but marrying it with a 5v5, full-on MOBA mode as its PvP component. Why choose between two genres of mobile game when you can enjoy them both in one title?..

I don't think I'll forget the end of 2017 for iOS gaming ever. We saw some unexpected and superb releases one after the other hit iOS but nothing comes close to what Aspyr Media released. They brought 2K and Firaxis' Civilization VI [Free (HD)] to iPad and went all the way. Civilization VI on iPad isn't a mobile version or a spinoff. It is the full game for iPad and it also asked for the full AAA console and PC game price with the $59.99 unlock. Ever since release, Aspyr has been updating it with various fixes and adding the DLC available in the PC version slowly. In fact we've seen an update each month more or less recently but the latest update isn't just about adding more DLC...

'Hello Neighbor' from tinyBuild Is Coming to iOS and Android This July and You Can Sign up for the Beta Now

Hello Neighbor originally launched on Xbox One and PC platforms a while ago. tinyBuild announced a PS4 and Nintendo Switch release soon after and while those editions just got dated, the interesting announcement is a mobile port releases the same day on both iOS and Android. They teased a mobile version already through an image that gave us a look at the interface which looks quite cluttered but is fairly standard for most ports to mobile from other platforms for games that use a lot of buttons on the traditional controllers. Watch some gameplay of the iOS version below:..

I don't think any Final Fantasy fan will forget the event where everyone expected a Final Fantasy VII remake announcement but what Square Enix ended up announcing was a port of the PC version. They did end up announcing a full scale remake for it eventually but it remains to be seen if the remake will release within this generation of consoles. Final Fantasy VII [$15.99] on iOS is a great version with controller support and iCloud support. Watch Eli literally stream it from his hotel around release below:..

Lineage 2: Revolution [Free] from Netmarble gets a huge update today. In addition to the massive 200 player Castle Siege Mode, new servers have been added across major regions. The Castle Siege mode lets players go up against ewach other by taking on and defending castles in real time battles. These will have four clans trying to conquer a castle and earn rewards. Watch the Castle Siege video showcase below for Lineage 2: Revolution:..

With the news hitting that Pinball Arcade [Free] developer Farsight has lost its Bally/Williams license, the timer is now ticking down on over 60 classic pinball tables. The good news? If you buy them before June 30th, you'll continue to have access to the tables. Moreover, Farsight has committed to continuing to support those tables with bug fixes and updates as needed. As long as you get them while they're available, you're good to go. But therein lay the problem; as much as the first instinct may be to buy them all, the truth is that in spite of each table's fair price, the total is quite a princely sum. Assuming you're not looking to break the bank, which ones should you buy? Well, I'm here to try and help you with that...

It's been about a month since the last big update to Nintendo's Fire Emblem Heroes [Free], which means we were just about due for another one. And here we are! The focus this time around seems to be in revamping the multiplayer Arena Mode and making some adjustments to welcome newcomers to the ever-expanding game. Even those who stick to the single-player maps will find a few things to like in this latest version, however...

Arena Changes, Shudderwock Rebalancing, and more 'Hearthstone' News in 'Touchstone' #123

It's time again to dive head first into some Hearthstone[Free] news! This week we're seeing some small changes to Arena as well as the card dubbed by former Lead Developer Ben Brode as 'The Craziest Card in Hearthstone.' We also got to see a few examples of new decks that have been performing well at legend rank. The Year of the Raven is now in full swing and we are continuing to see really amazing decks shine through and wow us...

It's often been the case throughout gaming history that certain releases have been altered for specific regions. These days, it mostly comes down to making certain cosmetic changes for local tastes or censoring things that may be seen as taboo. In the past, it was also quite common to make extensive changes to the fundamental gameplay. Renting games is illegal in Japan, but outside of Japan, any kid could drop a few bucks and take home the latest game for the weekend. In an effort to keep said kids from beating the games in a single rental, the difficulty was often jacked up for Western releases...

While I have my criticisms of Farsight's work on The Pinball Arcade [Free], the company has done a valuable service to the history of gaming and pinball fans all over the world with the game. The developers have painstakingly re-created tons of classic tables in digital form, often navigating a ridiculous labyrinth of licenses to do so. Because of that, I've often wondered if and when certain tables would start disappearing due to licenses expiring, but I never expected the news that Farsight delivered yesterday. The current owner of the Williams/Bally pinball IP has decided that it doesn't want to renew its agreement with Farsight, which means every last one of its tables will be pulled from sale as of June 30th...

Tiny Bubbles [$4.99] from Pine Street Codeworks is a game that's been in the works for several years now, and along its development journey it has garnered all sorts of attention and awards. And with good reason! This puzzler uses a mesmerizing physics system and there's a wonderful fluidity to the whole affair. We first saw the trailer for Tiny Bubbles back in August of last year, and we had a chance to go hands-on with the game during PAX West the following month. Now the wait is finally over as Tiny Bubbles officially released in the iOS App Store last night, as well as on Steam for Mac and Windows desktops. A version for Android on the Google Play Store and the Amazon App Store will be hitting in June. Check out the launch trailer for Tiny Bubbles below...

The cultural phenomenon that is Fortnite[Free] just seems to keep on rolling. Today it was announced that we will be getting some more Twitch Prime loot for the juggernaut game. Included in this package is the Exclusive Battle Royale Trailblazer Outfit, the Exclusive Battle Royale True North Back Bling, Exclusive Battle Royale Tenderizer Pickaxe and the Exclusive Battle Royale Freestylin' Emote. ..

The big Fortnite [Free] 4.1 update is finally here. As usual, you need to update the game on the App Store and then download a lot within the game after launching it. While each patch has loads of changes to various things, the focus here is no doubt the Avengers Mashup event that is available for a limited time only. In this mode, a meteor lands in the safe zone and will have the Infinity Gauntlet. Equipping this transforms you into Thanos. Watch the showcase for this below:..
